Design for Manufacturability Juice Extractor Redesign
Throughout our project redesign, we focused on increasing the ease of use of the juicer while reducing the manufacturing cost. For improvements to the design, we replaced the splashguard clamps with snap fits. We eliminated seven screws and replaced them with a twist-fit assembly for the motor housing and an annular snap fit for the base. We also opted to add a slide fit to the pulp basket and a flip cover on the spout to prevent dripping. By making these changes, we have decreased the operation time, reduced the number of parts, and increased the design efficiency. Through these design improvements we have also increase the ease of use for the customer. This redesign was developed by Andrew Bahner, Karla Coleman, Umang Khanna, and Lauren Mardirosian in Winter 2004, instructors: Prof. Sridhar Kota, Mentor Dr. Donald Malen, and Teaching Assistant Kerr-Jia Lu.
