Electric Staple Gun Redesign

Arrow Heavy Duty Electric Staple Gun, Model ETFX50

Redesign by:

Scott Ensminger
Michael Evans
Themistocles Frangos
Gregorius Poort

Winter 2005

The staple gun has benefited from many improvements in quality, reductions in cost, and increased value to the customer and manufacturer. The staple cartridge redesign includes a larger capacity of staples then the previous design, and allows users to view the amount of staples currently remaining. The cartridge redesign provided the opportunity to add a safety device to the contact point ensuring that no staples can be deployed unless the staple gun is pressed against a firm surface. The outer housing redesign provides a more balanced center of gravity for the user in addition to making the housing much quicker to assemble through the use of snap-fits.  The housing redesign provided the opportunity to add a battery pack to the product to eliminate the restrictions that an electric power cord can cause. This redesign was developed by Scott Ensminger, Michael Evans, Themistocles Frangos, and Gregorius Poort in Winter 2005, instructors: Prof. Sridhar Kota, Mentor Dr. Donald Malen, and Teaching Assistant Audrey Plinta.
